Why Public Service Announcements (PSAs)?

Approximately 30% of radio station’s advertising time goes unsold. That time is given, for free, to nonprofit organizations to inform the public about issues of public importance. AMC uses free, donated airtime to distribute PSAs that encourage individual responsibility and promote limited government, the rule of law, free markets, and the U.S. Constitution. These messages will provide a counter-voice to the existing PSA market, which promotes big government and dependency.

Designed to inform and educate, Public Service Announcements have been a cultural marketing tool for over 70 years.

Issues

AMC’s PSAs will be built around key themes and ideas. At present, AMC is focusing our efforts on the following national issues:

  • Free Speech – a cornerstone of American democracy, enumerated in the U.S. Constitution, free speech and free expression are under attack in the public space. We have seen a trend on college campuses of students and faculty alike disregarding the freedom of speech. While these trends are easy to spot on college campuses, it’s clear from the state of public discourse that Americans are increasingly cavalier about the free speech rights of those with whom they disagree.We must encourage public discourse and the positive impact of sharing ideas even in disagreement.
  • Occupational Licensing – As freelance and contract work become more prevalent in today’s world, so too do burdensome and often irrelevant skills-based licensing requirements. Today, more than 30 percent of all U.S. jobs require a government license without noticeable gains in safety or quality. Occupational licensing laws often place the heaviest burden on those who can least afford to spend the time and money obtaining such permissions.We must encourage entrepreneurism and innovation, not support government barriers preventing people from entering the job market.
  • Sharing Economy – The digital revolution has opened a market of opportunities to rent, borrow, and share commodities like never before. Companies like UBER, Airbnb, Lyft, and others offer people the opportunity to provide for themselves and their families at minimal to no start-up costs. As this market enters into uncharted economic territory, many state and local authorities are moving to saddle participants with burdensome regulations and taxes. These laws are backed and lobbied for by big business that are threatened by competition.We must champion emerging opportunities that promote economic growth and independence and push back government regulations which inhibit people’s right to earn a living.
